Technical

Your tapes may be digitized to a DVD or USB drive.

  • What are the formats of video that you accept?

Video tape formats include VHS, S-VHS, and VHS-C as well as most camcorder tapes such as Video8, Hi8, DV, MiniDV, Betacam SP, U-Matic

NTSC tapes: VHS, S-VHS, VHS-C, Video8, Hi8, DV, MiniDV, Betacam SP, U-Matic.

PAL tapes: VHS, S-VHS, VHS-C, Video8, Hi8, Digital8, MiniDV.

Copies can be ordered. We can also produce labels and packaging for your discs.

Videotapes with runtimes of less than 2 hours can will be converted on to one DVD. Runtimes longer than 2 hours it will be split into multiple DVDs to maintain the best possible quality.

VideoOttawa.ca will return your original tapes with your DVDs or hard drive.

VideoOttawa.ca services are only available for non-copyrighted materials unless accompanied by a verifiable letter of authorization from the owners. Any copyrighted material received by VideoOttawa.ca without such letters will be returned at the customers expense.
Our video conversion business hinges on protecting your privacy. Our process focuses on setting up the job to achieve the best possible quality transfer and seldom involves watching the actual footage supplied. After the conversion is completed and your job delivered to your satisfaction, all production files are permanently deleted.

A DVD can hold up to 2 hours of material.

95% of DVD players on the market since 1999 can play the DVDs we use to record. Older models may have problems playing recordable DVDs, regardless of who created it. As far as your computer goes, if you have a DVD drive and the proper software installed, it will work with no problems.

Shipping and Handling

All orders are shipped at cost with tracking numbers unless otherwise requested. 

All packages are shipped via Canada Post’s expedited parcel service with tracking numbers. To date we have a 100% success rate. If, for any reason your job is not received, we will will produce and ship another copy at no charge. Worst case scenario is you lose the originals which is what you were trying to do in the first place.

We recommend wrapping them in bubble wrap which you can get at any Canada Post outlet. VideoOttawa.ca is not responsible for any damaged items we receive through any method of shipping.

For large orders of separate video transfers, VideoOttawa provides a free local pick-up/delivery service in the greater Ottawa area. Standard pickup and delivery charges will be applied for Cumberland, Stittsville, Manotick, Rockland, and Cumberland.
